With the economy the way it is, more and more people are turning to the internet to make money. They want to make extra income to pay their bills without taking on a second job.
There are many ways to do this. You do need to understand that while it is cheaper to build an online business than a physical offline business, it will still take time, work, and some investment. However, the rewards can be much better than slaving for an employer.
So, how do you start making money online?
What do you want to do? Do you have skills that internet marketers need? Graphic design, copywriting, content creation? If so, look to places like fiverr. You could sell services that way. Technically it would be a job because you are working for those that hire you but, you would be working from home on your computer.
There is ecommerce. You could set up a store and find a good drop shipper, so you don’t have to fill your garage with products and then pack and ship them. The drop shipper will do all the physical work for you. Find a good drop shipper and your customers will see you for the return address and won’t know you have someone else filling the orders.
You could try affiliate marketing. Amazon has an affiliate program. It is also the biggest online market for physical goods. You could also open an account with affiliate networks and promote digital products. There are many affiliate platforms out there, too many to list. The best known are Clickbank, JVZoo, and Warrior+. They each have their own pros and cons. I am not going to go in depth with that because, it would take too much time. Each platform also has vendors that are more guided towards certain types of products.
With JVZoo and Warrior+, you have to apply to promote a product. You submit the request and the vendor decides if they want to let you promote for them. This makes it difficult for someone new to get approved but, it protects the vendor. You are basically applying to sell their product. Go to any merchant and see if they don’t make you fill out an application and answer questions before they let you work as a salesman for them. I have found that some vendors will approve you to promote a product that you have purchased. This helps a new affiliate marketer get started. With Clickbank, you find a product you want to promote and generate your affiliate link.
Now, before you say cool and run off, I have seen many say affiliate marketing is the easiest way to start making money online. I say bull. You still need a following that is interested in what you want to promote. This is very important. If you create an audience that is interested in dog training, How much commission will you get promoting a product that teaches how to lose weight? Any method of making money online is going to take time. The most time will be spent on learning how to make money online. You also have to look at the fact that if it is a product that is just launching, you have many affiliates that have created bonus pages for the launch. They are offering products for free to the customers that have purchased the product through their link. Do you have products to give those that buy through you? I know many that will not promote during a product launch but make good commissions after the launch for that reason.
Now, you could become a vendor, create your own digital products and launch them. Get affiliates to send the traffic for you paying them a percentage of the sales. I would not offer any less than 50% commission. With the affiliate platforms you can integrate your autoresponder and set it so everyone that buys your product is automatically added to your email list. This gives you a list of buyers that you can promote your own products to or earn affiliate commissions by promoting other vendor’s products.
The main thing to know is that if you decide to take a second job, or if you decide to make money online you need to learn. You will invest time. In my opinion, it is better to invest in yourself and work for yourself than take on another job. You are at least at home with your family. You can spend time with them while you learn. You can involve them in the whole process.
Pick one niche. Create a following for that niche. Then learn what you need to know about internet marketing while creating your following. I know I keep saying create a following but, I haven’t told you how. I will tell you the two best ways. One will cost many, that is paid ads, one is free, social media. Pick a niche you have knowledge about. Make your social media posts concentrating on that subject. Share your knowledge. Create something to give away for free in exchange for email addresses. That will give you an email list to promote products to.
When you look to the internet to make money, you are becoming a salesman. Whether it is promoting someone else’s product or your own, you are selling. Before you get scared and say you aren’t a salesman, answer this, do you have a job? You sold yourself to your employer during the interview. Everyone is a salesman.
